Country Restaurant Awards

Kuwait Restaurant Awards

Celebrating the chefs, restaurateurs and hospitality houses shaping one of the Gulf's most discerning and fast-growing dining cultures.

A Refined Gulf Dining Nation

Kuwait's Restaurant Scene

Few cities in the Gulf take their food as seriously as Kuwait City. From the breeze-cooled terraces along the Arabian Gulf Street to the quiet majlis-style dining rooms tucked into residential neighbourhoods, the Kuwaiti table is a place of generosity, conversation and quiet pride. The Kuwait Restaurant Awards exist to honour that culture — to recognise the kitchens, chefs and hospitality teams who carry it forward with skill and sincerity.

Kuwait's dining map stretches well beyond the capital. The waterfront restaurants and dessert houses of Salmiya draw an evening crowd that lingers late into the night, while Hawalli has become a magnet for inventive regional cooking and home-grown café concepts. Out in Farwaniya, dense and endlessly energetic, you will find some of the country's most authentic South Asian, Levantine and Filipino kitchens — proof that Kuwait's food story is, at heart, a story of the many communities who have made it home.

As part of the wider Middle East Restaurant Awards and the global International Restaurant Awards programme, the Kuwait edition gives local operators a credible, independent stage on which to be measured against the very best — and to be celebrated for it.

Restaurant Industry Overview

Kuwaiti dining culture is built on hospitality in its most literal sense. The shared platter, the unhurried late dinner and the ritual of strong cardamom coffee with dates remain central to social life, and the best restaurants understand that they are not simply selling food but hosting an occasion. This expectation of warmth and abundance sets a high bar — and it is one reason Kuwaiti diners are among the most knowledgeable and demanding in the region.

The signature flavours of the country reward a closer look. Machboos, the fragrant spiced rice cooked with chicken, lamb or local fish, sits at the heart of the national table, alongside grilled hammour and zubaidi from Gulf waters, mutabbaq samak, and the sweet, sticky pull of date-laden desserts. Around this core, Kuwait's restaurants layer Levantine mezze, Persian grills, Indian and Pakistani specialities and a confident, growing wave of contemporary cooking that treats heritage ingredients with modern technique.

Both ends of the market are expanding quickly. Fine dining has matured well beyond hotel ballrooms, with chef-led rooms, tasting menus and serious pairing programmes attracting a clientele that travels and compares. At the same time, casual dining and the café sector have flourished — specialty coffee roasters, all-day brunch spots and homegrown burger and bakery brands now define how a younger generation eats, meets and spends. The Kuwait Restaurant Awards are designed to celebrate excellence across this full spectrum, from the most ambitious tasting counter to the neighbourhood café that gets the everyday right.

Tourism & Hospitality

Hospitality Market & Culinary Tourism

Dining is increasingly one of the first reasons visitors and returning residents choose Kuwait. Business travellers, families from across the Gulf and a steadily growing leisure audience are drawn to the country's distinctive blend of authentic Kuwaiti cooking and a polished international scene. A memorable meal on the Salmiya waterfront or in a landmark Kuwait City hotel restaurant has become part of how the destination is experienced and remembered.

For hotels, malls and standalone operators alike, food and beverage is now a genuine driver of footfall rather than a supporting service. Strong restaurant concepts anchor new developments, extend the hospitality day from breakfast through to late dinner, and give the wider tourism economy a reason to talk. By spotlighting the kitchens that do this best, the Kuwait Restaurant Awards help raise standards, guide diners towards quality, and strengthen Kuwait's growing reputation as a serious Gulf dining destination.
