Country Restaurant Awards

Qatar Restaurant Awards

Honouring the chefs, restaurateurs and hospitality groups who have made Qatar one of the most exciting dining destinations in the Gulf — from the waterfront tables of Doha to the rising kitchens of Lusail.

A Nation at the Table

Qatar's Dining Scene

Few countries have reshaped their culinary identity as quickly, or as confidently, as Qatar. In a single generation, Doha has grown from a pearl-fishing port into a cosmopolitan capital where Michelin-pedigree chefs, heritage Qatari cooks and ambitious young restaurateurs share the same skyline. The result is a dining culture that feels both deeply rooted and thrillingly contemporary — majlis hospitality reimagined for an international audience.

Walk the corniche in Doha at dusk and the breadth of the scene reveals itself: souq courtyards perfumed with cardamom and grilled hammour, glass-walled towers housing tasting menus from Paris and Tokyo, and breezy waterfront terraces where families linger over mezze long into the night. Beyond the capital, the marina district of Lusail has emerged as a glittering new dining quarter, while the coastal towns of Al Wakrah and Al Khor preserve the slow, generous rhythms of Gulf hospitality and the freshest of the day's catch.

The Qatar Restaurant Awards exist to celebrate this full spectrum — the destination restaurant and the neighbourhood café alike — and to give the country's most accomplished kitchens a platform worthy of their ambition.

The Landscape

Restaurant Industry Overview

Qatari dining culture is built around generosity. The shared table is a social cornerstone, and hospitality — karam — is treated as both an art and an obligation. That tradition shapes everything from the lavish weekend brunches that have become a national pastime to the late-evening gatherings where machboos, harees, thareed and slow-cooked lamb are passed between friends. Sweet, syrup-soaked luqaimat and cups of cardamom-spiced gahwa close almost every meal, anchoring even the most modern restaurant in something unmistakably local.

Onto this foundation Qatar has layered an extraordinary range of global cuisines. Doha's neighbourhoods now offer everything from precise Japanese omakase and northern Italian trattorias to Lebanese grills, South Indian thalis, Persian rice houses and Turkish ocakbasi. The fine-dining tier has expanded dramatically, with marquee hotel restaurants and chef-led destination venues drawing diners from across the region, while a vibrant casual-dining and specialty-café culture has flourished in places such as Msheireb Downtown, The Pearl and Katara Cultural Village.

This dual growth — luxury and everyday — is what gives the market its energy. The same city that hosts a tasting menu costing as much as a short holiday also celebrates the perfect karak chai stop and the family seafood shack on the Al Wakrah waterfront. Both ends of that spectrum demand skill, consistency and genuine hospitality, and both are recognised within the International Restaurant Awards framework.

Tourism & Hospitality

Hospitality Market & Culinary Tourism

Dining has become one of the most powerful reasons international visitors choose Qatar. As the country positions itself as a year-round destination for leisure, business and major global events, its restaurants increasingly act as ambassadors — the first and most memorable expression of Qatari hospitality that many guests encounter. A standout meal in Doha or a sunset table in Lusail often becomes the story travellers carry home, and that word-of-mouth feeds directly back into the visitor economy.

The relationship runs both ways. World-class hotels, cultural districts and waterfront developments give chefs the settings and audiences they need to do their best work, while the restaurants themselves give those destinations their soul. From heritage Qatari cooking that introduces visitors to the country's pearl-diving past, to globally significant fine dining that signals Doha's arrival as a serious gastronomic capital, culinary tourism in Qatar is now a genuine pillar of the national hospitality story — and recognising excellence within it has never mattered more.

Good to Know

Frequently Asked Questions

The Qatar Restaurant Awards are the national programme of the International Restaurant Awards dedicated to recognising outstanding restaurants, chefs, cafés and hospitality groups across Qatar — including venues in Doha, Lusail, Al Wakrah and Al Khor. They celebrate excellence in fine dining, casual dining, cafés, seafood, resort restaurants and more.

Any restaurant, café or culinary professional operating in Qatar is welcome to take part — from a destination tasting menu in Doha to a family-run seafood restaurant on the Al Wakrah corniche or a specialty café in Lusail. Both established names and exciting newcomers are encouraged to enter.

Every entry is assessed independently against consistent criteria including cuisine and execution, hospitality and service, consistency, and the strength of the overall concept. Location is never a factor in itself — a neighbourhood favourite in Al Khor is judged with the same rigour as a flagship venue in Doha. You can read the full methodology on our judging process page.

Submitting a nomination is straightforward and there is no charge to put a venue forward. Details of any fees that apply at later evaluation stages are explained transparently on our fee page, so Qatari restaurateurs can understand the process before they commit.

The Qatar Restaurant Awards sit within our broader Middle East Restaurant Awards and the global International Restaurant Awards. This means honoured Qatari venues are recognised both nationally and as part of the region's most accomplished dining destinations, alongside neighbours such as the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.
