If your focus is comfort, value and welcome rather than formal fine dining, this is the right category.

Can a small independent restaurant compete with larger groups? +

Absolutely. Our judges assess quality, consistency and guest experience rather than size or budget. A single owner-led bistro is judged on the same six criteria as a multi-site group, and independents regularly stand among our most celebrated winners.

How are family restaurants judged differently? +

Family-focused venues are assessed with particular attention to how well they serve every generation at once: menu range, pacing, comfort, value and the warmth that makes children and older guests equally welcome. The Family Restaurant Excellence Award specifically rewards this balance.

Does my restaurant need to be newly opened to enter? +

Not at all. Established restaurants can enter every category, while the Best New Casual Dining Restaurant honour is reserved for venues open two years or fewer. Newer operators may also be considered for the Rising Star of Casual Dining accolade.
