Café Awards

Honouring the cafés and coffee shops that turn a simple cup into a daily ritual worth returning to — where craft, warmth and atmosphere meet.

The World of Cafés & Coffee Shops

Where Hospitality Begins with a Single Cup

The café is the most intimate room in all of hospitality. It is where a city wakes up, where strangers become regulars, and where the rhythm of a neighbourhood is measured out one flat white at a time. A great café asks for very little of its guest — a moment, a seat, a warm cup — and yet it carries an extraordinary responsibility: to get the small things exactly right, every single day. The Café Awards exist to celebrate the operators who understand that consistency, character and care are far harder to deliver in a teacup than they ever appear.

Across the world, the café has quietly evolved into a discipline of its own. Specialty roasting, single-origin sourcing, scratch-baked viennoiserie, considered all-day menus and beautifully designed rooms now sit comfortably alongside the timeless pleasures of a well-pulled espresso and an unhurried conversation. Whether it is a corner espresso bar, a destination roastery, a boutique-hotel breakfast room or a grand patisserie-café, this sector rewards precision and personality in equal measure.

This recognition matters because cafés rarely receive the spotlight afforded to fine dining, yet they shape how millions of people experience hospitality each morning. A place on the Café Awards roll of honour tells guests, partners and prospective team members that a venue belongs among the very best — a benchmark of quality earned through craft, not noise. ☕

Frequently Asked Questions

Café Awards FAQ

What types of venues qualify for the Café Awards? +
Any venue whose identity centres on coffee, tea and the daytime café experience is welcome — including specialty coffee shops, all-day cafés, roastery cafés, patisserie and bakery cafés, hotel and resort lounges, brunch venues and small café groups. If serving the cup with care is at the heart of what you do, you belong here.
Does my café need to win awards for its coffee specifically? +
No. While coffee craft is one of our six judging dimensions, the Café Awards assess the complete experience — food, service, ambience, consistency, innovation and the overall guest experience. A beautifully run café with a modest but excellent coffee offering can absolutely compete.
Can a brand-new café enter? +
Yes. The Best New Café and Rising Star Café honours are designed specifically for venues and operators in their early years. Newcomers opened within the past two years are warmly encouraged to nominate alongside established institutions.
How are café entries judged? +
An independent panel reviews each nomination against six criteria: cuisine and coffee craft, service, ambience, consistency, innovation and guest experience. You can read more on our judging process page, which explains exactly how entries are scored.
How do I nominate my café? +
Simply complete the online nomination form, telling us about your venue, your story and what makes your hospitality distinctive. You may nominate your own café or put forward one you admire. Visit our fee and contact pages if you have any questions before submitting.
