Indian Restaurant Awards
Honouring the kitchens, chefs and hosts who carry the depth, warmth and craft of Indian cuisine to tables around the world.
A cuisine of region, memory and remarkable range
Few culinary traditions reward attention quite like Indian cuisine. Behind every plate lies a vast geography of regional kitchens — the coconut-laced curries of Kerala, the smoke and tandoor heat of the north, the delicate fish preparations of Bengal, the vegetarian artistry of Gujarat, and the layered biryanis of Hyderabad. To cook this food well is to balance dozens of spices with restraint, to honour technique handed down through generations, and to make something ancient feel entirely alive on the plate. The Indian Restaurant Awards exist to celebrate the people and places that do exactly that.
Across capital cities and quiet neighbourhoods alike, Indian restaurants have become some of the most beloved dining destinations in the world. From refined fine-dining rooms reinterpreting heritage recipes to family-run kitchens serving home-style thalis, the breadth of excellence is extraordinary — and too often overlooked by awards that flatten an entire subcontinent into a single category. We take a more considered view, recognising the chefs, restaurateurs and front-of-house teams whose craft deserves a proper stage.
This recognition matters because it shapes reputations, rewards consistency, and tells diners where genuine quality lives. A place on the Indian Restaurant Awards shortlist signals that a kitchen has earned its standing through skill rather than spectacle — a distinction guests increasingly seek out. It is part of our wider restaurant sectors programme and sits alongside our broader award categories.
Six honours for Indian restaurants 🍛
Each award is judged on its own terms, so a small regional kitchen and a flagship fine-dining room are measured against what they set out to achieve.
Indian Restaurant of the Year
Our highest honour, awarded to the Indian restaurant that most completely unites authentic cooking, gracious hospitality and a sense of place. The benchmark for the entire category.
Best New Indian Restaurant
Recognising a kitchen opened within the last two years that has arrived with confidence, clarity of vision and food that already feels assured beyond its years.
Award for Culinary Excellence

Rising Star Award
Celebrating an emerging chef or young restaurant whose talent and ambition mark them as a name to watch across the Indian dining landscape.

How entries are assessed
Our panel of chefs, restaurateurs and hospitality specialists evaluates every nominee against six clear, food-focused criteria. Together they reward genuine quality rather than marketing, and ensure that consistency and care are properly recognised.
- Cuisine & Authenticity — flavour, spice balance, technique and fidelity to the regional traditions a kitchen represents.
- Service & Hospitality — warmth, knowledge, pacing and the genuine care extended to every guest.
- Ambience & Setting — the atmosphere, design and comfort that frame the meal and reflect the restaurant's identity.
- Consistency — the ability to deliver the same high standard across every cover, shift and season.
- Innovation — creativity in menu, presentation or concept that moves Indian dining forward with purpose.
- Guest Experience — the complete journey, from booking to farewell, and the loyalty it inspires.

Indian Restaurant Awards FAQ
Any restaurant whose menu is rooted in Indian cuisine is eligible — from refined fine-dining rooms and regional specialists to family-run neighbourhood kitchens, tandoor houses, vegetarian establishments and hotel-based Indian venues. Both independent restaurants and venues within hotels or resorts may enter.
Not at all. These are international awards, open to outstanding Indian restaurants anywhere in the world. We celebrate the global reach of Indian cuisine, so a kitchen in London, Dubai, Singapore or Mumbai is equally welcome to enter.
An independent panel assesses each nominee against six criteria: cuisine and authenticity, service and hospitality, ambience, consistency, innovation and overall guest experience. Restaurants are judged against what they set out to achieve, so smaller kitchens compete fairly alongside flagship rooms. You can read more on our judging process page.
Yes. Owners, chefs and managers are encouraged to self-nominate, and guests or industry peers may nominate a restaurant they admire. Self-nomination carries no disadvantage in judging — every entry is evaluated on merit alone.
Winners receive an independent mark of distinction that builds visibility and guest confidence, typically supporting stronger bookings and a more premium positioning. Recognition also boosts team pride, helps attract talent, and connects your restaurant to a respected international hospitality community.
